Toyota chose a complex name for its latest concept for one simple reason, to contain the two letters bZ. It is an abbreviation of the words Beyond Zero, ie the name of Toyota’s strategy, under the heading of which up to 15 purely electric Toyota is to be created by 2025.

The bZ4X is the first vehicle to be built on the all-new modular e-TNGA platform developed by Toyota in collaboration with Subaru. The new concept corresponds in size to the RAV4 model, and Subaru will soon build its own Forester SUV-sized electric car on it.

The platform is characterized by short overhangs of the body, but on the contrary a spacious and open cabin, where there should be enough space for legs. All-wheel drive, which is referred to by the abbreviation 4X in the car’s name, should be a matter of course.

The design of the vehicle does not deny and fits into the Toyota portfolio. The elements of the RAV4 model, which was recently introduced in a plug-in hybrid version, are evident. But the front part looks very futuristic. It contains a large smooth section behind the license plate holder, narrow LED headlights and a small breath of air at the bottom. The back is dominated by an LED light strip. Black painting around large alloy wheels is also interesting.

The car’s cabin looks almost like it should go into production next week. Everything is dominated by a large infotainment display, a wide center panel and, above all, a special square steering wheel. Above it, Toyota placed a high display instead of the dashboard.

“Our target customer is someone who emphasizes the time spent with family and friends. If they want to enjoy such moments, the Toyota bZ4X concept can help them divide their time, ”said a Toyota engineer Koji Toyoshima.

Toyota used an innovative steering system for the model, as did Lexus for the LF-Z concept. There is no longer a mechanical connection between the steering wheel and the front axle and everything is controlled by electronics.

As for other technical specifications, Toyota unfortunately remains very stingy. According to sources close to the company, however, the Japanese carmaker has embodied its many years of experience in the production of electric motors, and the production car will also offer a very competitive range.
