The residents of San Antonio de Flores, El Paraíso, changed their mayor in less than 45 days after a vote-by-vote recount has left the candidate who had lost in the general elections on November 28, 2021 as the winner.
At that time, the current nationalist mayor, Alex García, surpassed his liberal counterpart, Pedro Starling, by five votes, but after a review of the polls by the Electoral Justice Court (TJE), he has surpassed him by 13.
Starling had resorted to this instance, denouncing that 198 Nicaraguan citizens voted in the November elections after being illegally registered on the electoral roll.
This is the first case of review that reverses the November results at the municipal level. The TJE evacuates more than 92 similar procedures and in the first four there were no changes with respect to the initial scrutiny. Along with San Antonio de Flores, counts have been carried out in Soledad, El Paraíso; Masaguara, Intibucá and in San Luis and Peota, both in Santa Bárbara. (EG)
