The TER line between Grenoble and Gap reopens this Sunday 11 December

The reopening of the TER Grenoble-Gap line is inaugurated this Sunday December 11 by the collective of the Veynes railway star. The Clelles-Veynes section was closed for three years and the Clelles-Vif part was closed for a whole year. “We’re really very happy, it really is a relief for all the territories that have found themselves isolated in this period”, confides Nicolas Tremblay, one of the representatives of the collective in Isère. For this somewhat special day, the members have therefore decided to do it take this first TER and go to Lus-la-Croix-Haute (Drôme), “a station that hasn’t been serviced for three years”he says.

The works, for a total cost of almost 35 million euros, were partly financed by the state, the Auvergne Rhône Alpes region, the Provence-Alpes-Côte-d’Azur region and other local actors such as the departments (Isère and Hautes-Alpes), the metropolis and finally the SNCF network. They allowed to modernize signaling systemsto secure rock walls or even for renew a few kilometers of railway.

An uncertain future

The works are insufficient for the collective. “The line is threatened with closure by 2026-2027 because it is still in very bad condition. We are therefore asking for work to make this route permanent”, says Nicolas Tremblay. A request addressed to the State but also to the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. “I share the sentiment of the collective, assures Frédéric Aguilera, but I remind you that the State owns the rails and that the Region has only the possibility of buying and running the trains. So obviously we will ask the state to invest more in our short lines but for that he has to maintain his legacy and develop the rails.” The financing of the line will be discussed in the context of the debates on the State-Regions plan contract for 2023.
