This is a big surprise: As in the previous year, TC Froburg Trimbach was able to put world number 65 Pablo Andujar on the squad list for the Interclub competition. The 35-year-old, extremely experienced Spaniard can look back on an exciting clay court season.

In mid-May he defeated Roger Federer 6: 4, 4: 6, 6: 4 in Geneva, after a tough fight he eliminated youngster Dominic Stricker in three sets before losing to Casper Ruud. Even afterwards at the French Open, Pablo Andujar played a big role, causing the first big surprise of the tournament by knocking down the number 4 seeded Austrian Dominic Thiem in five exhausting sets in the starting round.

“It is extremely gratifying that he is considering a deployment in Trimbach again – we have never had a Federer conqueror in our squad,” says TC President Marco Meyer happily and adds: “Trainer Bartolomé Szklarecki and team boss Peter Gubler have an excellent one Job done and made sure that contact with Pablo was never broken. ”

Andujar appreciated the family atmosphere last year and really enjoyed the days at TC Froburg-Trimbach. He takes off his hat, says Meyer: “Pablo is not only an excellent tennis player, he also has his heart in the right place and is an extremely loyal person.”

From Tokyo to Trimbach

Whether he really comes up will be decided during the Olympic Games in Tokyo, where he will compete for Spain. At best, it could come to a precision landing: The men’s tournament is on the program in Tokyo from July 24th to August 1st, and the Interclub rounds will be held from August 2nd to 11th. In order to be prepared for all eventualities, Trimbach has also bought the licenses for the three other Spaniards Pedro Martinez (ATP 95), Carlos Taberner (ATP 114) and Alvaro Lopez (ATP 414). Today, Friday, Swiss Tennis announces the squad lists of all NLA teams. Andujar should be one of the biggest surprises.

Froburg has also managed to sign Mika Brunold (N3, 50). The 16-year-old is in top form and was crowned the U18 Swiss champion a week ago as number two in an average field of participants. “That pleases me very much. He was already noticed at the ITF tournament in March and is now joining the squad, ”says Meyer. Local hero Mischa Lanz (N2, 21) and Jonas Schär (N3, 33) also have to take responsibility. The Froburg team also includes surprise bag Yann Marti (N2, 15), Adam Moundir (N2 26) Jacob Kahoun (N3, 32), Raffaele Mariani (N4, 74) and Marko Osmakcic (R1).
