The Sultan Hasanuddin Class I Meteorological Station has not received any information on the solar halo or sun ring phenomenon in the sky of Antang, Makassar. But this phenomenon is called common.

“Halo is an optical phenomenon in the form of a circle of light around the sun because there is a refraction of sunlight by high clouds. There may be, especially if the condition was Makassar, the condition of the clouds being a lot of high clouds (cirrus). It’s a normal phenomenon, especially if the cloud conditions are high,” said Sultan Hasanuddin Class I Meteorological Station Forecaster, Faqih Nurrohman, confirmed BUTTER, Monday, January 10.

The halo phenomenon occurs because ice crystals form from cirrus clouds at an altitude of 5-10 km. Sunlight is reflected or refracted by the ice surface in the form of a prism so that sunlight is split into several colors due to the air effect and is reflected in a certain direction.

The Halo phenomenon, apart from occurring in the form of a full circle with a rainbow-rimmed edge, can also be in the form of a semi-circle with the center in the sunlight.

The phenomenon of the solar halo begins with the presence of sunlight, sunlight is then reflected or reflected or refracted by ice crystals in the form of rods or prisms. Sunlight that is split into several colors is reflected in certain directions around the sun and becomes a ring of light around the sun.

The Halo phenomenon is called BMKG an ordinary natural phenomenon, it has nothing to do with extreme weather signs or anything. Therefore, the public does not need to panic or be influenced by myths or incorrect information related to this phenomenon.
