The storm interrupted traffic on the corridor in Prague. Dozens of children had to be evacuated in the Trutnov region Home

Heavy storms, which hit part of the Czech Republic in the afternoon, complicated transport, especially by rail, and employed firefighters. Until 19:00, they intervened in connection with the weather in 542 cases, mainly in the Pardubice, Hradec Králové, Olomouc and Central Bohemian regions and in Prague. They mostly removed fallen trees or pumped water from flooded areas. They had to evacuate a children’s camp in the Trutnov region.

In the Pardubice region, firefighters helped torrential rains in dozens of places after storms. They drew water from flooded cellars and houses, clearing fallen trees. The biggest problems were around Litomyšl, Moravská Třebová and Chocna. “Water mostly flowed from fields and meadows into villages. Some small streams were also flooded, “said the operational officer of the regional fire brigade.

The level of Novohradka in Luže in the Chrudim region exceeded the lowest flood level at 18:00. An hour later, she must have culminated. The degree of vigilance also applied in the early evening in the Svitavy region in Třebůvka in Mezihoří and Úsobrnský brook in Jaroměřice.

Between Chocní and Brandýs nad Orlicí, water flooded both tracks on the railway corridor from Prague to Moravia after torrential rain. The operation was interrupted for about an hour. From 15:50 the trains passed at a reduced speed.

In the neighboring Hradec Králové region, firefighters had to evacuate a children’s camp in the Trutnov region after a strong storm. About 60 children were transferred to alternative accommodation.

Due to strong storms, railway traffic was briefly interrupted in the afternoon also in the Liberec Region between the Mimoň and Brniště stations in the Českolipsko region. Stones and mud got on the track. “It was on a section of several hundred meters,” said the spokesman of the Railway Administration Marek Illias. The track was cleaned after 16:00.

Due to the weather, there were no passenger trains or express trains between Prague’s Smíchov and Radotín. The operation was stopped around 17:10 by a power failure of the traction line after a lightning strike. The railways introduced alternative bus transport, but the number of buses was very limited.

Firefighters in the capital had to intervene in almost 50 cases in connection with the storm and downpour. They drained water from cellars and flooded sections of roads or removed a fallen tree.

Heavy rain also complicated tram transport. At around 5.30 pm, trams did not run between Malovanka and Pohořelec for about 20 minutes. Due to the flooded intersection of Pod Lisem and Povltavská streets in Troja, the operation of tram line 17 between the Nádraží Holešovice and Ke Stírce stops was suspended in both directions from 17:48.

The fallen trees were also removed by Central Bohemian firefighters, whose number of exits has risen to about forty due to storms. In Kutná Hora, they helped with a flooded panel house. “The drain on the roof was blocked,” said their spokesman Jaroslav Gabriel. In Dřetovice and Stehelčeves in the Kladno region they drained water. In the Benešov, Kolín and Prague-West and Prague-East districts, they removed fallen trees.

In the Olomouc Region, in the afternoon, firefighters set out for about fifty weather-related interventions. “It’s muddy mud from the fields and fallen trees. Several cellars were also pumped. The events were concentrated in the districts of Šumperk, Přerov and Olomouc, “said spokesman Radek Buryánek. For example, in Přerov, firefighters removed fallen trees in Budovatelů Street. Parked vehicles were also hit, but everything went unharmed.
