The stage of the Latvian Orienteering Championship will take place in Carnikava

This week, on September 5 and 6, the third stage of this year’s Latvian Orienteering Championship will take place in Carnikava. More than 700 participants will compete in the middle distance and middle distance relay. This year the Latvian championship will take place in five stages – long distance, sprint and sprint relay, medium distance and relay, marathon and night stage. In order to promote the development of the sport, the company “Maxima Latvija” has joined the circle of supporters of the Latvian Orienteering Championship.

Despite the fact that in the spring, due to an emergency situation, three months have passed without a competition, the season of the Latvian Orienteering Championship will take place almost without changes, the organizers of the event inform. This year, a novelty has been introduced in the stages of the Latvian Orienteering Championship – an instructor will be invited to each competition, who will provide free training in orienteering. This means that people without previous knowledge in orienteering are also invited to take part in competitions in order to gain their first orienteering experience and get to know this sport.

“We are celebrating the 20th season of the Latvian Cup with an increase in participants and the attraction of new cooperation partners. The main goal of the Latvian Orienteering Federation is to involve as many Latvians as possible in the orienteering movement [..]. We are glad that every year new, active people join our ranks, for whom orienteering becomes a passion of a lifetime, ”says Matīss Ratnieks, project manager of the Latvian Orienteering Federation.

Sport and a healthy diet have always been one of Maxima’s core values, so given the impact of Covid-19 on society and the sports community, we want people to lead a healthy lifestyle, and orienteering is a great example of how to do it in the fresh air. , given the very important social distance. In order to develop this sport in Latvia and make it even more accessible to the population, we have started cooperation with the Latvian Orienteering Federation. Together with the Latvian Orienteering Federation, we will work to make people more and more familiar with the benefits of orienteering and thus spend more free time actively playing sports in nature, ”says Jānis Vanags, the corporate manager of Maxima Latvija.

The Latvian Orienteering Championship and the Latvian Cup take place this year from July to October. Both the best individual athletes and the best orienteering clubs will be determined in the competition, the organizers report. The annual orienteering cup for Latvian schools will also take place in September.
