The staff and residents of AWO Cologne can look back on a year of Corona

Almost a year ago Germany went into the first corona lockdown. The Arbeiterwohlfahrt Köln uses this as an opportunity to counter the negative feelings of the pandemic with a video.

For a year now, the coronavirus has determined the lives of millions of people – and especially the lives of people in a care facility. The two inpatient facilities of the Arbeiterwohlfahrt (AWO) in Cologne were banned for 56 days, according to a video published by the AWO on Monday. “How do you explain that to a very old, sick person?”

But then the video becomes more hopeful: “1,248 vaccinations” are displayed, then there are pictures of dancing people – staff and residents of the AWO facilities in Cologne, who move exuberantly to the music of Aretha Franklin’s “Respect”.

In the text of the video, the AWO writes that in the fight against the virus it is not easy to “maintain enough room for the positive”. The stressful experiences got under the skin, ease and serenity remained subdued. With the video, however, you have created a moment to counter these feelings: “We have opened a valve.”
