The spread of COVID-19 continues in Ottawa | Coronavirus: Ontario

What we see now is the problem with the Christmas festivities, believes Dr. Robert Cushman. It’s been a little over two weeks that we are in [confinement], but before Christmas, we saw a lot of family activities outside with friends. It was to be expectedhe said

Ottawa Public Health (SPO) recorded 184 more cases of COVID-19 on Sunday. With this new assessment, the capital now has 11,378 cases recorded in its territory since the start of the pandemic.

Twenty-six people are hospitalized and 9 are in an intensive care unit.

Two more people also lost their lives after contracting the virus. Thus, 397 deaths occurred in the territory of SPO since the start of the pandemic.

Across Ontario, provincial public health reports 3,945 new infections. The Toronto health region remains the epicenter with 1,160 new infections.

A total of 215,782 cases of COVID-19 have been identified in Ontario since the start of the pandemic, and 4,983 people have died from the disease.

If cases are on the rise, it is because part of the population does not follow the health rules put in place, believes Dr. Cushman.: “Oh, I only have a gang of three or four in my house. ” But the three or four, they have other groups, and that’s what gives us problems “,” text “: The problem is, everybody says, ‘Oh, I only have a gang of three or four in my house. “But the three or four, they have other groups, and that’s that gives us problems “}}” lang = “fr”>The problem is, everyone says, “Oh, I only have one gang three or four people in my house. ”But the three or four, they have other groups, and that’s what gives us problems, he argues.

A curfew in Ottawa, the solution?

Dr Cushman hopes the tide will turn during the week. The numbers are terrible everywhere, he says. We are at the point where we have to do everything possible.

According to the chief medical officer, travel and shopping should be put aside for now. Employers should also prioritize telecommuting when possible. Control can be more effective with a curfew. We will see what is happening in Quebec, he adds.

Some citizens also believe that a curfew like the one imposed in Quebec could help reduce the spread of the virus in the capital.

I believe it might work, that it might help bring the numbers down, believes Alexa Quarrington, met in Ottawa. If this is the next extreme we have to go through then I believe this will be it, for his part, launches Janel Deslauriers.

Others doubt that imposing a curfew will be effective against COVID-19. It’s going to be a bit complicated, a [couvre-feu], believes Emma Trudel, also met in the capital.

For her part, Sarah Sabih fears that this is only one measure among others.: social distance, masks. It seems to me that, despite all this, the virus is spreading “,” text “:” We have so many restrictions: social distance, masks. It seems to me that, despite all this, the virus is spreading, she says. I think people band together even though there are restrictions, adds Laura Davis.

In Gatineau, a total of 411 checks were carried out on citizens who were outside their homes after 8 p.m. Saturday, when the curfew came into effect.

Result: 21 statements of offense were given to people for not having respected the measure imposed by Quebec.
