The Public Health Commission has avoided ruling on the vaccination of the players of the Spanish soccer team, considering that it is not within its competence. Sources from the Ministry of Health and regional authorities have informed Efe of this decision after the meeting of this body, made up of health technicians from the ministries with representatives of the Ministry of Health.

The Commission had on its agenda to analyze the request made by the Ministry of Culture and Sport so that the players receive the vaccine like the Spanish athletes who will attend the Tokyo Games, and has considered that this matter is not within its competence.

The proposal was raised after Sergio Busquets, captain of the Spanish team, had to leave the Las Rozas concentration after testing positive for coronavirus, but it has raised numerous criticisms, among them those of the chronically ill group, of United We Can -partner of the coalition government- and other parties, such as EH Bildu and Compromís.

The Real spanish soccer federation (RFEF) revealed the contagion of the Barça player on the night of Sunday the 6th, two days after the friendly played with Portugal in Madrid and on the eve of the one scheduled for this Monday with Lithuania, and the case disrupted all the group’s plans, despite that the rest of the players gave negative results in the tests they were subjected to on Monday.

The immediate measure was to isolate the rest of the team -the other 23 players and the coaching staff- who remained concentrated in the Soccer City of Las Rozas and take Busquets to his home in Barcelona in a medicalized ambulance.

The internationals have since followed personalized training while maintaining isolation. The solution to play the match against Lithuania was to summon the U21 team, although many of its players had just started their vacations having concluded their participation in the Eurocup of that category last week. The 20 called up with their coach at the helm, Luis de la Fuente, trained Monday night at 10:30 p.m.
