The Spanish Film Library proposes to meet again with a silent film classic

Madrid, Dec 15 (EFE) .- With a score composed especially for the occasion and live music. This will be the screening of the silent film classic “La pueblo maldita” (Florián Rey, 1930) with which the Spanish Film Library will close its cycle dedicated to the director of photography and film restorer Juan Mariné.

The musician and producer Raúl Refree has been in charge of putting music to this essential film for Spanish cinematographic history, which Mariné restored in 1985 and which can be seen on December 18 and 19 at the Filmoteca, explains this institution in a note .

Through an accurate score, the Catalan musician turns today’s sounds into “the oppressive and decadent atmosphere” of Florián Rey’s brilliant film, where a miserable farmer and his family decide to leave their lands to try their luck in the city, convinced that they are suffering a curse.

A key film in Spanish silent cinema, starring Carmen Viance, Pedro Larrañaga, Amelia Muñoz and Pilar Torres, and that years later Florián Rey would return to the cinema, in a sound version.

Refree, producer of artists such as Rosalía, Amaia or Silvia Pérez Cruz, has a stable solo career, with awards such as the Gaudí Award for Best Original Music for “Entre dos aguas” (Isaki Lacuesta, 2018).

Tickets will be available 72 hours before the screenings on the website of the Spanish Film Library: ticketsfilmoteca.gob.es. EFE
