“The Social and Cultural Phenomenon of South Bohemian Pubs”

One goes to a pub not only for beer, but also to have fun, socialize and broaden one’s horizons. In the south of Bohemia it has been like this since time immemorial. Thanks to this, the South Bohemian pub has now officially become a social and cultural phenomenon.

The South Bohemian Region was the first in the Czech Republic to recognize the contribution of a beer pub to culture and social cohesion by entering it into the List of Intangible Assets of Traditional Folk Culture. South Bohemian councilors decided on it. South Bohemia is one of the regions with a strong beer culture. “The habit of meeting in the pub, passed down from generation to generation, helps to share the joys and worries of a wide range of residents. In the Middle Ages, in České Budějovice alone, 387 houses had the right to brew. The Jihočeská hospoda was, is and will be a place of strong social interaction,” explained Deputy Governor for Culture Pavel Hroch.
