“The Smartest Person” Candidates Battle Illness and Medication in Memorable Episode

tvRobin Pront needed a lot of medication with caffeine on Tuesday to be able to compete in ‘The smartest person’. “I would have preferred to cancel, because I still feel sick with the flu,” he said snotty. Jacotte Brokken had also taken painkillers for her persistent cold and Charlotte Adigéry felt ‘not in good shape’ because she was still recovering from illness. All those medical reports suggested that it wouldn’t be a memorable episode. For the star of the program it certainly was.

If the candidates of ‘The Smartest Person’ had listened to Sciensano’s advice (‘Stay at home if you feel sick’), there would have been no episode on Tuesday. Erik Van Looy, still recovering from a nasty cough, was shocked by the disappointing health bulletins from his quizzers and summarized the situation questionably but beautifully: “So the question is: who is the sickest here tonight?” That seemed to be Robin. In any case, the director had taken most of the medication, but still fought bravely in the battle arena. Charlotte as well. She felt sad, but had decided to shine. And she did. Erik was impressed, thought she looked beautiful and asked her to stand up for a moment to admire her fashionable outfit in all its glory: a slightly translucent but undoubtedly very high-quality voile in the shape of a wedding dress.

Erik melted and showed this afterwards by his slight preferential treatment in order to let Charlotte have more of her say later in the quiz. Much more than, for example, Jacotte, who also looked festive, but was the only one in the program who did not receive a question about her outfit. When Charlotte could only give 7 out of 10 answers in the photo round, Erik encouraged the artist extra: “Well played, Charlotte, because it was not easy”. Jury member Jan Jaap van der Wal echoed Erik’s admiration: “She is the star of this program.”

That could all well be the case, but it was the silent VRT weather woman who once again gave the best answers and collected the most seconds. Jacotte won the victory and a ticket for the semi-finals mainly thanks to a beautiful final sprint. The final round was therefore between Charlotte and Robin. During the quiz, the director had mentioned that he also thinks Charlotte has a beautiful appearance and that he can therefore confidently make her the smartest person. But the stress bunny said with a grin that he would still do his best to prevent that.

“My energy isn’t that good today, but luckily Robin’s isn’t either,” Charlotte laughed affably into her – perhaps very cute according to Erik – fist. A question about the planets with the final sound ‘us’ determined that Charlotte could also go to the semi-finals and Robin could go home. Charlotte emphasized: “I wasn’t in good shape today.” Erik nodded, but didn’t mind. In any case, that form should improve on Wednesday, Charlotte, because then howler and comedian Alex Agnew will come along. And hopefully Erik will also say something about Jacotte’s successful outfit, still the great champion this season in terms of the number of participations.
