the sixth place in L1 will be European!

Olympique de Marseille, RC Lens and Stade Rennes were particularly interested observers of the semi-finals of the Coupe de France which were contested in the middle of the week. After the qualification of PSG, at the end of the suspense during the first semi-final in Montpellier (2-2; 6-5 on penalties), the three competitors in Europe had their hearts swaying for AS Monaco facing Rumilly Vallières this Thursday evening.

The National 2 club, author of a real feat in the quarter-finals by leaving Toulouse (L2), failed to repeat such a performance against the Monegasque club, current third in L1 and still in the race for a place in the League champions. The amateur players had opened the scoring but finally cracked (5-1).

The now official PSG – Monaco final offers certainty: the sixth place will be European and qualifying for the Europa League Conference. The French club which will finish sixth will indeed play a play-off for accession to this new continental competition.

Fifth place, meanwhile, is now directly qualifying for the Europa League.

Two places for three

While Marseillais, Lensois and Rennais fought so far for a single European place, here is a second.

For RC Lens, sixth in L1 but tied on points with OM, a European qualification would be a real achievement. The promoted Artesian must now tear away at least from the competition of one of his two competitors during the last two days.

The Lensois would even already be European on Sunday evening, at the end of the 37th day, if the following two conditions were met:

– Lens wins in Bordeaux

– Monaco wins against Rennes

In all other cases, everything will be played on Sunday May 23, the 38th and final day.

The candidate program for Europe

Marseille (56 points, +6)

D37: receives Angers

D38: go to Metz

Lens (56 points, +4)

D37: go to Bordeaux

D38: receives Monaco

Rennes (55 points, +11)
