The sharp Sandero RS ends. Emission standards are not just a concern for European drivers

The Sandero RS from Renault’s workshop is powered by an atmospheric two-liter. And that’s why the interesting hot hatch dedicated to South America is coming to an end.

Dacia Sandero is sold in selected markets with the features of the parent Renault, mainly outside Europe. For example, the previous generation of this hatchback is still sold in South America, which is available here even in the sharp version of the Renault Sandero RS 2.0. But that is now saying goodbye to the world.

The carmaker has announced the end of this hot hatch dedicated to South America, which debuted in 2015. The car is saying goodbye to the final edition, which will be created in only 100 copies.

The changes are only minimal, the final edition inside the car is actually indicated only by a plaque with the serial number on the center console. However, each owner will receive a special merchandising box with RS logos, which includes a cap, keychain, bottle, wallet and a poster with a technical drawing of the car.

However, under the hood, a 2.0-liter four-cylinder atmospheric four-cylinder paired with a six-speed manual, which reaches 112 kW (150 hp) and 205 Nm of torque when driving on ethanol, which is a popular fuel in Brazil, continues to operate. It offers 108 kW and 198 Nm of gasoline

It is the powertrain that is the reason why the Renault Sandero RS 2.0 ends. The old engine no longer meets the upcoming emission standards, which will come into force in Brazil in 2022. The carmaker decided not to adjust the unit for the new emission limits.

But there is another justification. Renault has completely ceased operations of the Renaultsport division, or has replaced it with the Alpine brand. In the future, the Sandero RS 2.0 can easily replace the Sandero Alpine model.

In any case, the history of the Renault Sandero RS 2.0 ends with more than 4,600 units. It found popularity in Brazil thanks to the available price tag, another hot hatch on the market up to 100,000 Brazilian reals (390,000 CZK) was not on the market. It wasn’t just an ordinary Sandero with RS stamps on it. Developed by Renaultsport in collaboration with Renault designers from Sao Paulo and engineers from South America, the car also differed in addition to the powerful engine with a gearbox with reduced gears for better acceleration or a specially tuned chassis using disc brakes on both axles or wheels fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires. .
