The second wave of Ukrainian refugees are more severely injured

Ukrainian refugees, who are now leaving their country due to Russian aggression, have been more severely traumatized than Ukrainians who fled the first phase of the war, the UN said on Friday.

The country was left in the first phase of the war by those who had contacts outside the country, a plan for the future or a place to stay, but now the people who have no plans for what to do next are leaving the country, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) said.

Those now fleeing refugees need more support in Rzeszow, in south-eastern Poland, said UNHCR spokesman Matthew Salt-Marsh.

“This is definitely something we in Poland have noticed over the last five or six days,” he said.

“Refugees who arrive are more severely injured. They have been in shock, many of them. I think it would be fair to say that they have fewer opportunities than those who came in the early stages of the crisis. “

Since Russia launched a full-scale war against Ukraine on February 24, 3.27 million people have fled the country, UNHCR estimates.

Two million have arrived in Poland, the Polish border guard said.
