1973: Astronauts embark on challenging spacewalks to repair NASA’s damaged Skylab space station
It is called the first NASA space station Skylab, was launched into orbit on May 14, 1973. During the launch, the shield of a tiny open meteorite was accidentally torn apart and in the process tore open one solar panel and damaged another. Now NASA has a weak and rapidly warming space station in orbit that requires a team of axles to repair it.
Apollo 12 veteran Pete Conrad, along with newbies Paul J. Weitz and Joseph B. It took a series of spacewalks to fix the problem, but ultimately the crew installation of sun visors, they spread the forbidden network and then they started their real scientific mission. So Skylab welcomed three crews.
The end of the Skylab mission also did not go as planned, as after a series of delays in raising its orbit, the station began to return faster than expected, as the Sun’s activity inflated the atmosphere. Parts of the Skylab accidentally rained down in Australia and nearby areas on 11 July 1979, but no one was injured.
