The Rolls-Royce Boat Tail, the most expensive car in the world, debuts at Villa d’Este

At the Concorso di Eleganza of Villa d’Este the first public debut ever for what is the most expensive car in the world, with an estimated price of around 20 million euros. A car tailored to the client, who wanted it to look like a luxury yacht. We saw it live

There are luxury cars and then there are ultra-luxury ones, built step by step with the customer. Here, this is the case of the Rolls-Royce Boat Tail, the fantastic one-off worth 20 million euros (estimated figure) that was created at the express request of a customer. Being a super special project, Roll-Royce has created an ad hoc team called Coachbuilding. The English house, after presenting its first electric car, therefore confirms its absolute leadership in the field of ultra-luxury, showing a project that showcases all the opulence and quality production of the company.

Unbridled luxury

The genesis of the Rolls-Royce Boat Tail took four years of work, during which the client, body builders, engineers and designers of Rolls-Royce worked closely. The house claims 1,813 new components were built and more than 20 people participated in the project. The chassis alone required eight months of work and a 15 speaker sound system was also custom built.

A little car, a little boat

The shapes of the Boat Tail recall those of yachts, with an imposing front and an infinite tail. The central processing of the project has gone from the extreme reduction of the coupling points between sheet metal, a detail that stands out in the construction of the rear quarter, behind the door, in a single element and with the “deck” where the clear nautical inspiration is “read”. The beating heart of the Rolls Royce Boat Tail is undoubtedly the “boat tail” rear part, which replicates the aft deck. It is a detail made of anthracite-colored Caleidolegno, with the cockpit cover and the tensile structure attachment points as if it were a boat awning. Many exclusive details such as the curvature of the windshield, wrapping around the front pillars.

A box for champagne

Since a picnic at sea is an absolutely pleasant experience, the Boat Tail has been equipped with the same philosophy. The double luggage compartment houses a complete set complete with Rolls-Royce glasses, cutlery and napkins. There is also a compartment to keep the Champagne safe, with the dimensions of the compartment calculated to the millimeter to accommodate the right number of bottles (Armand de Brignac) as desired by the customer. On one side, however, there are all the dishes for a dinner signed with cutlery with the ‘Boat Tail’ logo by Christophle. To shelter from the sun or bad weather, you can use the retractable umbrella installed in the center of the trunk. Stools were also thought of: in the compartment there are two models of the Italian Promemoria. To create the temperature regulation system in the luggage compartment complex, five different control units were created and the whole was tested with temperatures between -20 and 80 ° C. Woe to having food and Champagne outside the correct service standards.

Sea blue

The customer chose blue for the bodywork with metallic finishes and crystals incorporated into the paint that give a look that changes according to the light. The bonnet has shades of blue and the same color is found in the elegant alloy wheels. The interior is also finished in blue, with leather and carbon fiber upholstery. The dashboard features the same anthracite-colored Caleidolegno wood and there is also a fine Bovet 1822 watch and a collectible Montblanc pen, specific to match the Boat Tail. The obsessive attention also extends to the 55 ° angle of the contrasting stitches on the seats.
