The Rolling Stones Warn Trump To Stop Using Their Song “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” For His Campaign

Donald Trump can’t always get what he wants. British rock group Rolling Stones threatens President to prosecute if he continues to use one of their songs, You Can’t Always Get What You Want during campaign events, as he did recently in Tulsa, in the Republican stronghold of Oklahoma, on June 20.

The rockers are in touch with the American organization for the protection of musical rights, BMI, which warned on Saturday June 27 that any future use of a Rolling Stones work during Mr. Trump’s campaign would violate its license agreement with the ‘organization.

“The BMI informed the Trump campaign team on behalf of the Stones that the unauthorized use of their songs would be a violation of its license agreement,” can be read in a press release published by the news site Deadline, located in Holywood. “If Donald Trump ignores it and persists, he would then be prosecuted for breaking the embargo and playing unauthorized music”, is it underlined in this press release. The Deadline article was retweeted by the official account of the legendary rock group.

Several artists have opposed Mr. Trump’s use of their music for years. The rock group Queen had protested against the use of one of the most famous songs in the rock repertoire – We Are The Champions – during an appearance on stage of Mr. Trump at the republican convention in 2016. The group had explained on Twitter that their tube had been used “Against their will”. Adele, REM, Neil Young…, many artists and their heirs have also denounced the use of their works during republican rallies.
