the road locks inaugurated, local residents not yet convinced

Mayor Armel Chabane’s campaign theme, road safety will be dealt with by the municipality of Bouzonville at the rate of one project per year. For the first of the list, which includes the entrances to the town, the reflection focused on the rue de Benting. Vehicles take advantage of the downhill road to gain speed. The classic speed bumps are not necessarily the obvious solution, especially for the hearing comfort of the inhabitants. After reviewing the various existing solutions, the City opted for road locks, in consultation with the Department.

An experiment with temporary locks, started in May 2021, has proved conclusive. Residents and the neighborhood committee have been informed, the project has been adopted and the improvements have been made.

The chosen version installs two locks. The first is near the playground and the second near the old customs blocks. The direction of priority specified on the panels is in the direction of Benting. Speed cushions, installed near the railway bridge, complete the facilities.

The opinion of local residents

The initiative is considered interesting by local residents. However, some remain a little hungry. They wanted smart traffic lights instead of locks, but the project was already complete. “It is still going fast between the locks and some are doubling”, testifies a resident. “You should draw a continuous line,” she suggests. Another resident adds a layer: “As the passage between the locks is wide, some trucks drive fast and are sometimes in my opinion on the verge of overturning…”

“The best option” for the mayor

“With the Department, we sought a balance between the solutions. The locks are, in our opinion, the best option for this route,” says Armel Chabane. “If everyone respected the regulations and showed good citizenship, we wouldn’t have to invest so much money in order to ensure road safety,” he criticizes. “This development cost us €50,000 and was subsidized to the tune of €13,500 by the Department. »

Now on to the next project, which is well under way. “It concerns the road to Thionville. Smart lights called “reward” will be placed at the height of the college, “announces the mayor.
