Recently, universities that provide hearty breakfast to students for just 1,000 won have become a hot topic.

However, there is a local government in Seoul that has applied this ‘thousand won table’ to dinner for children from dual-income families in the city.

Can a cheap meal in the era of high prices become a new welfare model?

Reporter Kang Min-kyung has been there.

In the early evening, children’s plates are filled with delicious food.

Back ribs, fried rice, and even French fries.

Any elementary school student in Nowon-gu, Seoul can come and eat a hearty meal for only 1,000 won.

Nowon-gu Office, which has been running an elementary school restaurant for working couples since 2020, has lowered the price of a new meal by 2,500 won in the past two months.

Satisfaction is very high among children who eat and parents who trust and send.

The unit price of a meal made with eco-friendly pesticide-free ingredients is 8,000 won.

Nowon-gu will bear 3,000 won of this.

Nowon-gu explained that an additional budget of 30 million won to be used by July of this year was set aside, but even if the budget was increased here, it was sufficiently manageable.

The so-called ‘1,000 Won Table’, which started in college districts, is gaining explosive popularity and is spreading throughout society.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs increased this year’s ‘1,000 won breakfast’ support project from 690,000 to 1.5 million, and Jeollanam-do is considering establishing a breakfast support center for non-regular workers in Yeosu industrial complexes.

A 1,000-won table that extends the range of benefits beyond college to children and ordinary citizens.

Attention is focusing on whether it can establish itself as a new welfare model in the era of high prices.
