The Rise of Moral Harassment at Work in Luxembourg: A Conference Addresses the Issue

In France, cases of moral harassment at work are increasing, but among our neighbors in the Grand Duchy? Often taboo, the subject is slowly starting to get tongues wagging. In a context of permanent performance, competition between employees, sustained pace, it is no longer rare for the Maison du Luxembourg to be the receptacle of quite edifying stories.

After having noted the feeling for a while, professional harassment “has become a subject”, admits Isabelle Lan, its director, even if the testimonies often remain evasive, out of fear or modesty… The statistics confirm the phenomenon: according to the Quality survey of Work conducted in 2019 by the University of Luxembourg for the Chamber of Employees, up to two in ten employees say they are victims of such actions.

In this context, the Maison du Luxembourg, in partnership with l’association luxembourgeoise Mobbing and Frontaliers Grand Est, is offering a conference on moral harassment at work, Saturday October 14, at 10 a.m., at the La Scala conference space (place Anne-Grommerch). The idea is first to frame things: to know where the “simple” professional conflict ends and where the real harassment begins. “This conference aims to inform, educate and warn the general public,” continues Isabelle Lan. Information on how to act, how to protect yourself, and where to seek help will be provided.

The law of March 29, 2023 introduced a system relating to protection against moral harassment on the occasion of labor relations in the Labor Code. This law remained in draft form for five years before its entry into force. It provides for numerous obligations for the employer, sanctions as well as increased protection for employees.

Saturday October 14, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., La Scala conference space, in Thionville. Free admission, limited seating available.
