The Resignation of Zhan Videnov and the Transition of Power in Bulgaria: A Retrospective by the President

I was the deputy chairman of the party for organizational and ideological issues. Zhan Videnov announced his resignation on the rostrum itself. We were like shocked, unprepared. We had to think for a day – a day and a half about who should replace him, what kind of team to make. Then the idea was born that I should head the party, and Kolyo Dobrev (Nikolai Dobrev) should take over the mandate to form a government”. This is what the president of Bulgaria (2002-2012) told in the program “Offensive with Lyubo Ognyanov” on NOVA NEWS.

“There is nothing wrong with having a dialogue between the two sides of the barricade. The barricades were on the street, in politics – where else,” Parvanov said. “Ivan Kostov is a difficult opponent, but comparing him with the subsequent leaders of the executive power, we can say that Kostov is a man of the law,” he said, and gave the example that Kostov did not agree with the acceptance of Kosovo refugees, because it poses many risks for our country.
