A representative of the US administration said that US sanctions could further affect Sberbank and VTB.
“Let me be very clear, no Russian financial institution is safe. If this invasion continues, we are ready to press the button to take further action against Russia’s largest financial institutions, including Sberbank and VTB, which have combined assets of almost $750 billion,” he said during a special telephone briefing for journalists.
