The rendering plant of Gédon in Lamentin under close surveillance.

After years of nuisance and pestilential odors, a collective of associations decided to take action alongside the population. A file that these associations have been following since the start of the project in 2014

The Site Monitoring Commission, which should have been created at least at the start of the 2017 operation, has finally seen the light of day and for the first time, the main players met on May 20.
The group of residents’ associations wants to inform the population about the implementation of this Commission and to take stock of the work in progress.
Since the start of the project in 2014, the associations have closely followed the case concerning the processing plant for dead animals and slaughterhouse waste. In February 2018, residents took action to denounce the odor nuisance they suffered due to the proximity of the factory.

We also remember that in January 2020, the mayor of Lamentin put the company Waste Management Guadeloupe (Gedeg), then owner of the processing and recovery plant for meat waste on notice to stop the odor nuisance caused by its activity.
Even today, the Sud Manten pou Dèmen association, spokesperson for the collective of local residents’ associations, wants to be heard at all levels of responsibility so that their daily experience is not trivialized but that it is really taken into account by all.

In Gédon au Lamentin, everyone hopes that the film, of which they are the actors in spite of themselves, will have a happy ending very quickly and do not wish to see it become an endless series.
