The remains of a great white shark discovered on a beach in the county of Kent

A woman made a rare and unusual discovery Sunday when she photographed the remains of a great white shark along a beach in Pointe-Sapin, near Kouchibouguac National Park.

The photos of Pierrette Landry have been around the web and the St. Lawrence Shark Observatory has confirmed, on Facebook, that it is a young male shark of about three meters.

“Apart from the small scars typical of the white shark, the carcass has no noticeable injuries in the images and does not carry a transmitter. Although such sightings are rare, it is still common for some individuals to die for various reasons before reaching adulthood. In this case, an autopsy should be performed to try to clarify the cause of death, “said the organization, which studies Atlantic sharks.

According to the Observatory, the presence of the white shark, an endangered species, in the Gulf of St. Lawrence in October, including the Northumberland Strait, is nothing unusual.

“Several tagged sharks are currently in the Gulf and may remain there until November before returning to their winter range off the east coast of the United States.”
