The record of deaths in Russia, Romania with full intensive care: the fourth wave of Covid hits the countries with the lowest number of vaccinated

The right arm of Vladimir Putin says the Kremlin is worried, the Romania remained without a government, also disheartened about the management of the vaccination campaign and the pandemic, the Bulgaria with the lowest vaccination rate in the European Union and with all districts in the “Red zone” dell’Ecdc for the number of infections. The fourth wave is overwhelming pieces of Eastern Europe, starting with fly, attacking countries where the rates of vaccination they are lower. Arriving to sink the Bucharest executive on the very days when the seats in the terapie intensive are exhausted and the secretary of state, Raed Arafat, had to ask for help in Brussels for medicines e beds. Against it vaccine skepticism it is enough to look beyond the Balkans in recent weeks, comparing new cases, deaths and the percentage of the population that joined the anti-Covid campaign choosing to protect themselves from contagion and, above all, from the risk of developing symptoms in case of infection. To explain the effects of the combined return of theAutumn, mild restrictions and spread of the Delta variant there are mainly Russia, Romania and Bulgaria. But also in the Baltic countries the situation is deteriorating and the Lithuania has become a case for the high number of no-vax among over 75 which is forcing the government to push seniors to hubs even with economic incentives.

The record of deaths that worries the Kremlin – The last 48 hours in Russia have been the most dramatic since the start of the pandemic with more than 1,800 deaths caused by Covid-19. And for more than a week, official data transmitted from Moscow have marked over 800 victims a day, with a 7-day moving average soaring by 382 dead at the end of June to 868 on Tuesdays. As he explained Alexei Kuznetsov, assistant to the Russian Minister of Health, at the moment the infected they are receiving medical care there are more than 950 thousand. Dimitri Peskov, spokesman for the Kremlin, did not hide “concern” and pointed the finger at the rate of people who have decided to be vaccinated: “The data are very negative and they are reason for worry. The main reason is the insufficient level of vaccination, ”Peskov said, adding that“ the virus is becoming more aggressive ”. But the level of immunized people in the country remains inadequate: the Russian Deputy Prime Minister, Tatiana Golikova, explained in recent days that 42.2 million of people “have been fully vaccinated” out of a population of approximately 146 million. According to the report by Our World in Data, Russia immunized 29% of citizens, with 6.8% receiving only one dose. Faced with a scenario in clear worsening, with the winter that will return to give a boost to viral circulation, Vladimir Putin’s spokesperson has returned to talk about lockdown, defining it as an “unwanted” measure but underlining that in any case “all regions have been authorized to adopt measures separately, due to the epidemiological situation locale”.

Bulgaria, the least vaccinated country in the EU – Also Sofia trembles due to the increase in infections. According to the ECDC website, the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control, he was vaccinated with two doses on 24,3% of the population over 18. Considering the entire population, the figure is therefore even lower, with some sources citing the Ministry of Health and indicate the rate of vaccinated at 19,4%. The effects? The moving average of deaths in the past month has jumped from 44 to 85, with the peak reached on 4 October when 178 deaths were recorded in twenty-four hours. From 1 September to 6 October in Bulgaria they were ascertained 54,179 contagions out of a population of just over 7 million inhabitants. Deaths from Covid-19 over the same period were 2.370, 13% of the total deaths since the start of the pandemic. Almost the entire territory of Bulgaria is in the red zone due to the number of infected and the site BalkanInsight.com told at the end of September that the virologist Radka Argirova he stressed that the use of fake vaccination certificates. A suspicion also advanced by the Union of Bulgarian doctors, following an investigation launched by Greek border authority and the discovery of a laboratory in the city of Gabrovo which issued negative molecular tests and fake vaccination certificates.

In Romania hospitals in collapse – In Bucharest, however, faced with the lack of ability to reverse the trend of the curve and push the population to get vaccinated, the government led by Florin Citu has been disheartened from Parliament after a piece of majority he had openly criticized the premier. From 1 September to 6 October, Romania recorded the 17% of cases of infection with Sars-Cov-2 ascertained from the beginning of the pandemic and a tenth of total deaths (3,338). According to the site datelazi.ro made in collaboration with the government, Monday data, only 28,08% of the population is immunized with two doses, a figure almost identical to that reported by Our World in Data (28.4%). On 5 October the places in intensive care – where they are hospitalized 1,480 patients – I’m officially finished throughout the country and on Sunday the secretary of state, Raed Arafat, was forced to ask the European Union to support the country with supplies of medicines and, in case of need, welcoming in foreign hospitals sick in serious condition. Only in recent days have the authorities intervened with new ones restrictive measures. The vaccination pass has become compulsory to enter the restaurants, in cinema, theater, concert halls and to attend weddings e baptisms. Furthermore the mask it is required by law in all indoor public places. Measures that some political forces that supported Citu have evidently considered belated, in the face of a moving average that has gone from 25 deaths at the beginning of September to 182 of the past few days, with a peak of 252 deaths in 24 hours last October 5th.

Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia – Even in Baltic countries the low number of vaccinations is leading to one fourth pandemic wave even worse than the previous ones, especially as regards the number of deaths. There Lithuania has the 60% of the entire population vaccinated, but still has one third of the population over 75 not immunized, so much so that on Wednesday 6 October the government announced that it would consider the possibility of providing for a payment of 100 euros to the elderly who decide to vaccinate against Covid. L’Estonia and the Latvia instead I’m still al 47% of the vaccinated population. Lithuania from September 1st to October 5th had over 40 thousand positive cases, therefore with an average above a thousand infections a day, very high for a population of 2.8 million inhabitants. He also had 547 dead in just over a month (203 deaths per million people). More than a tenth of Lithuanian deaths from the entire pandemic occurred in September 2021 alone. Latvia (1.9 million inhabitants) recorded from 1 September to early October 20mil new cases of coronavirus, with 178 dead. L’Estonia matters more than 17mil infections in the last 35 days, with 1.3 million inhabitants. There were 86 deaths in this period.

Comparison with Italy – The number of vaccinated in our country travels on better percentages, with the 72,4% of the population that received the two doses (il 79,5% if only those over 12 are considered). The effects on the curve of infections and in particular of deaths are evident if messi to confrontation with the countries mentioned so far. From 1 September to 5 October in Italy we had an average of 66 new cases per million people. In Russia the average of infections is more than double, in Romania there have been over the quadruple of positives every 24 hours. If our country followed the same Romanian trend, in the last 30 days we would have had at least half a million of new cases. Looking at the number of deaths, the difference is even more evident. In Italy there have been 0,86 deaths per day per million inhabitants from September 1st to October 5th. In Bulgaria in the same period the daily average is ten times higher (9.82), in Romania it is close to 5 deaths per million people, in Russia it exceeds them. If in Italy the number of deaths in the last month had followed the curve recorded in Moscow, we would have had at least 11 thousand dead, instead of 1,828.
