The Quantic Lab test studio is still responsible for Cyberpunk 2077’s poor state at the time of release

Online this summer appeared information that is partly responsible for the failed release Cyberpunk 2077 lies with the Quantic Lab test studio, which fooled CD Projekt RED about the real state of affairs while working on the project. Edition PC Gamer conducted its own investigation, which confirmed this information.

PC Gamer interviewed several Quantic Lab employees, including previous ones. According to their comments, the studio actually lied to customers about the number of testers. Quantic Lab executives assigned one person to multiple positions and, in fact, forced them to work for four at the same time. At the same time, they told partner companies that the test team was large.

However, the experimentation of Cyberpunk 2077 seems to have really happened with the involvement of a large number of people. It was so interesting for employees that they left other projects (creating a staff shortage) and came to test the game from other departments as well. But in a Quantic Lab, CD Projekt RED lied anyway: not all employees had the claimed experience. According to a tester who worked on Cyberpunk 2077 in a quality control study, out of 30, only 10 people had testing experience, and of those ten there were none with more than a year of experience.

CD Projekt RED has complained several times about Quantic Lab’s work, and Quantic Lab has responded with minor bug reports completed to meet the daily quotas. This distracted the testers, who were working on higher priority bugs, including those related to the main story missions, which did not allow the game to complete.

Currently CD Projekt RED does not work with Quantic Lab. The contract was not renewed in 2021, although initially it provided for the possibility of continuing work on updates and expansions of Cyberpunk 2077.

One of the former Quantic Lab employees said he wouldn’t blame the QA studio for the state of Cyberpunk 2077, because the decision to release the game in this form was still with CD Projekt RED. But he acknowledges the fact that Quantic Lab contributed to the project’s unsatisfactory state upon release.

Cyberpunk 2077 was released on December 10, 2020 for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. And on February 15, 2022, a game update for Xbox Series X / S and PlayStation 5 became available.
