The purchase of the convent of Santa Clara is only pending a few fringes | Radio Pontevedra

The Council of Pontevedra has the purchase of the convent of Santa Clara practically closed. The local government does not want to anticipate the final price at the moment, but there is talk of several million euros. The operation is only pending a few fringes, according to the Urban Planning councilor, Xaquín Moreda, revealed at a press conference.

Among the aspects that remain to be specified is the relocation of a small interior cemetery in which several nuns are buried. And the solution for some altarpieces that the Church wants to keep on its property.

Xaquin Moreda only revealed that the technical inspection carried out by municipal technicians in Santa Clara confirmed that no structural or serious damage architectural problems; Yes OK a profound reform of the enclosure will be necessary.

The local government expects in any case that the operation is closed in a few weeks, while recognizing the complexity of the negotiations with the Church. Xaquin Moreda even ironically indicated that in this case the saying of moving Rome with Santiago is fulfilled. In any case, the councilor assured that there is good harmony with the Poor Clares and that the Council is currently the only one interested, so the agreement seems a matter of weeks.

Xaquin Moreda assured that at the moment the local government has not yet decided what the future uses of this site will be, but the objective is to recover the buildings and 12,000 square meters of green area for the enjoyment of the people of Pontevedra and to integrate that space in the city.

From the opposition, the PP of Pontevedra already described as “insufficient” the explanations given by the councilor in the urban planning commission. The popular ones insist on requesting an extraordinary meeting of the Interior Regime so that the local government and the technicians inform in detail about the possible purchase and future uses of the Santa Clara convent.
