The PSOE proposes Santiago Pérez as a new regional senator | Radio Club Tenerife

The PSOE of the Canary Islands has agreed to propose Santiago Pérez as the new autonomous senator, a decision that has been approved this Monday without votes against by the Regional Executive Commission and ratified unanimously by the Regional Committee, the highest body between congresses of the Canarian socialists .

Both the Executive and the Committee have met in an extraordinary way and by videoconference to address this appointment proposal and analyze the political situation, highlighting the high participation that both calls have had.

The decision of Blas Acosta to renounce his candidacy to occupy the act of senator for the Autonomous Community due to the “harassment and discredit” that he says he has received has made the name of Santiago Pérez the only one that was put to the vote.

Said vote should have been held on February 23, but the extraordinary convocation of the Executive Committee scheduled for that day was postponed because it was not possible to comply with the statutory obligation that the vote be in person.

The explanation of the PSOE was that members of this body could not be present due to the impossibility of displacement from their home islands due to sanitary conditions, and in order to respect the rights of all of them, it was agreed to postpone said Executive until today.

Likewise, also last February the Executive of the PSOE of Tenerife showed its unanimous support for the candidacy of the councilor of the City Council of La Laguna, understanding that the position being replaced was that of a senator from Tenerife.

The Tenerife PSOE also valued Pérez’s political career, training and ability to carry out his duties, which is why it considered him to be “the most suitable candidate” to replace Pedro Ramos. Precisely, at the meeting held today, the socialist leadership had words of gratitude for Ramos himself.

The candidacy of Santiago Pérez to the Upper House must now be endorsed by the Parliament of the Canary Islands in the plenary session called for this Tuesday and Wednesday.
