German automotive giant Volkswagen’s woes with electric cars continue – I’m already starting to sound like an old, broken circuit board, but the demand for VW electric cars continues to decrease and the manufacturer is considering reducing the number of factory worker shifts at its main electric car plant in Zwickau.
Already in September, Volkswagen dismissed 269 employees in Zvikava, most of whom were temporary workers. It was one of the many warning bells that indicate the obvious – VW’s electric cars are losing ground in competition with cars from other manufacturers.
As reported by the German auto publication Automobile Week, instead of three shifts, work continues in two shifts in Cvikava. Representatives of the manufacturer did not deny such information, saying that such a move ensures “productive factory workshops and the future existence of the factory.” The manufacturer had previously reported a temporary halt in production due to a shortage of electric motors.
