The price of rents is increasing in the province, but not necessarily in the region

According to a recent study by Rentals.ca, the average monthly cost of renting a two-bedroom unit in Canada has hit an all-time high of $2,139 per month. Still according to the data collected, the increase in rents in the major centers of the province can reach 22%, as is the case in Quebec. In the region it is impossible to calculate a precise average. On the other hand, the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation collects data each year for cities with populations greater than 10,000. However, the only municipalities that qualify in the region are Gaspé and the Magdalen Islands. According to the latest report, a two-room apartment in Gaspé would cost an average of 661 dollars and in the Islands 806 dollars.

“If we take the entire rental housing market, I don’t think Gaspesiani and Madelinot pay more than the people in the city…Simply because our housing stock, proportionally, is also older than the one in the city.” says Ambroise Henry, general manager, GÎM Collective Housing Resource Group
