Continental Hockey Leagues (KHL), President Alexei Morozov does not rule out the possibility that the league could be expanded by units from Japan and South Korea.

Morozov has revealed to the prestigious media Forbes that the league is looking for opportunities to expand and is also looking at countries that are exotic to hockey geography.

“Of course, the European market is the most interesting,” Morozov said. “However, Asia has not been forgotten either. So far, countries such as France, Sweden, Germany, the United Kingdom, South Korea and Japan have shown interest. ”

“KHL hosted the KHL World Games last season, when the league’s best teams played in Davos,” the president continued. “We try to present our league in such a way that it would be interesting for the maximum number of fans. We planned to explore two new potential locations for KHL teams next season, but a pandemic began. ”

KHL currently plays clubs from Russia, Latvia, Finland, Belarus, Kazakhstan and China. Previously, the league was also represented by teams from the Czech Republic, Croatia, Slovakia and Ukraine.

It is significant that the president of KHL’s “most exotic” team, Beijing’s “Kunlun Red Star”, was previously Latvian Raitis Pilsētnieks, who is no longer in the club’s structure.
