The president and the mayors of municipalities discussed measures to protect those employed in the coal industry – 2024-04-18 06:42:03

/ world today news/ The head of state discussed with the chairman of the National Association of Municipalities in Bulgaria and the mayors of Pernik, Stara Zagora and Kyustendil the prospects of using the potential of the European platform “Coal Mining Regions in Transition”.

On the initiative of the head of state, together with representatives of the executive power, the measures to protect those employed in the coal-fired power industry, which would contribute to the preservation of employment and the competitiveness of Bulgaria with modern and modern technologies, were discussed with the mayors of the settlements potentially most affected by the Green Transition for electricity production.

The conversation took place in House 2 of the “Boyana” Residence after the held round table on the topic “Measures to solve the problem with the high price of electricity and natural gas. Preparation of Bulgaria’s position before the EU.”

The head of state highlighted the need for the timely preparation of individual regional plans through a thorough study of the needs of the respective settlement, which would contribute to a smoother transition and the preservation of the livelihood of Bulgarian citizens. In his words, only with integrated efforts can industrial zones be developed and jobs preserved. “It is the state’s commitment to stimulate large investors in order to create jobs in order to preserve people’s livelihoods,” pointed out Rumen Radev.

Local government representatives emphasized that the “Just Transition Fund” can mitigate the social and economic effects of those employed in the sector. According to the mayors, it would be good if the funding were directed mainly to education and retraining for those employed in the sector and to supporting technological innovations of small and medium-sized enterprises in the field of energy. This is of particular importance, they say, as these regions differ greatly in terms of geographic location, level of economic development and demographic prospects.
