The prefecture of Hérault closes the Koranic school of a mosque in Béziers

Located in the heart of Béziers, the El Houda mosque is not affected by the administrative closure decision. The place of prayer remains open to the faithful. But the very premises of his Koranic school, located in the same building, were closed due to an administrative provision, given their non-observance of the rules governing the exercises open to the public (ERP).

According to Free lunchthis decision taken on Wednesday 5 October follows a visit by the departmental subcommittee on security, chaired by Pierre Castoldi, sub-prefect of Béziers. “This unannounced inspection revealed clear non-compliance with regulations: faulty electrical installation, no fire alarm and fire door, insufficient emergency exits, etc. “said Hugues Moutouh, prefect of Hérault.

Logically, the commission issued an unfavorable opinion and asked the mayor of Béziers, Robert Ménard, to close the section dedicated to religious education, which welcomed 47 students aged 7 to 11. The latter refused to comment, contenting himself with explaining that he had closed the school “according to what the prefect asked me”. He added, however, that “the class that everyone knew existed, will reopen its doors when all the required works have been completed and after a new visit by the safety committee”.
