Burgas and Stara Zagora have become the next cities where the party has problems
The disintegration around GERB continues. After the failed November vote was followed by UDF scandals and problems in GERB’s structures in Plovdiv and Targovishte, the dramas spread to other cities. A few days ago, the two Burgas councilors of the IMRO broke up the alliance with Boyko Borissov’s party. At the start of the current municipal mandate, the two formations had formed a joint group in the Burgas council, but now Georgi Drakaliev and Nikolay Stoyanov have chosen to leave. The official reason – problems with the interaction, unsupported ideas of IMRO. The two made it clear that they will now stand behind the proposals of other parties. Contradictions also appeared in Stara Zagora, at the highest level. At the last session, the councilors from ZNS did not support GERB in the key vote for the closure of the municipal association “Ritual Activities”. GERB had to form another majority, pushing for the decision, because it is the partnership with ZNS that supports the current one (the chairwoman of the municipal council Maria Dineva is from ZNS). Officially, the coalition has not been disbanded, but interesting processes are expected, because at the national level earlier in the year the ZNS stood up against GERB, allied with “Stand up! ..”.
All these events are a consequence of the great event in 2021 – the fall of GERB. Without the glue of national power, the configurations around the party are collapsing like dominoes. The trend will intensify with the approach of local elections in 2023. And there is disintegration in other places – in Balchik, for example starts in the spring.
