The portrait becomes clearer as to the future GM of the Mets

Vacant for more than a month after the departure of Brodie Van Wagenen, the post of general manager of the New York Mets is slowly starting to see a few potential candidates emerge for the future.

According to MLB Network’s Jon Heyman, a quartet of contenders could end up in the Big Apple alongside new owner Steve Cohen. These include Boston Red Sox assistant general manager Zack Scott, in addition to Jared Porter, who serves in the same role with the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Additionally, the names of Billy Owens (member of the Oakland A’s executive) and Michael Hill (ex-president and general manager of the Miami Marlins) surfaced during the day on Friday.

In Porter’s case, this isn’t the first time rumors have sent him to a CEO position. One of the finalists for the same job with the Angels, this one is seen by some as the frontrunner to become the next general manager of the Chicago Cubs. The main interested party has already served as director of professional recruiting with the Illinois roster during the 2016 season. In addition, he has previously worked under Jed Hoyer and Theo Epstein with the Boston Red Sox.

Also according to Heyman, it is possible that we could know the identity of Brodie Van Wagenen’s successor during the next week. No matter who is the successful candidate, he will have his work cut out for him and won’t have time to twiddle his thumbs, as fan expectations have skyrocketed since the squad was sold on the news of the autumn.
