The PiS government wants to freeze energy prices in its final stages. He accepted the project

The still functioning government of Mateusz Morawiecki adopted a draft act amending the acts to support consumers of electricity, gas fuels and heat and certain other acts, prepared by the Minister of Climate and Environment.

As we read in the statement, the government wants “extend the operation of the protective mechanisms regarding freezing energy prices until 2024″.

The solution will ensure protection of Poles next year against the increase in the costs of electricity, gas fuels and heat, while maintaining a balance between the financial capacity of households, prices of energy carriers on the markets and the total costs of the support system burdening the state budget – informs the Prime Minister’s Office.

The project provides freezing prices and electricity rates for households. This is to be a continuation of the mechanism that has been operating so far.

“Freezing” prices and distribution fee rates assumes stabilization of energy trading and distribution bills at the level of prices and tariff rates from 2022. The issue of an increase in electricity prices and distribution fee rates in the tariffs for 2024 will not matter.

Recipients will be able to use the mechanism:

• up to a limit of 3 MWh for all households;
• up to the limit of 3.6 MWh for households with people with disabilities;
• up to the limit of 4 MWh for farmers’ households and Large Family Card holders.

The maximum price will also be intended for: SMEs, sensitive entities and local governments.

Regardless of the increase in electricity prices on the wholesale market in 2024, settlements with these customers will use a price for electricity trading not higher than the so-called the maximum price is set at PLN 693/MWh – emphasizes the Chancellery of the Prime Minister.

Therefore, energy sector companies will have to use the electricity prices in force in the tariffs approved for 2022 in their settlements in 2024. In return, they will be able to count on compensation from the state budget. They will be paid by the Settlement Administrator SA

The project also includes freezing gas prices for household consumers of gas fuels and entities providing key public services. According to his records they are to pay PLN 200.17/MWh for supplies under the rules applicable in 2023.

The adopted solutions are also intended to extend operation of support for heat consumers throughout 2024 on the current terms. “The prices and fee rates borne by consumers for the supplied system heat will be maintained at a level no higher than the prices and fee rates applicable to heat consumers on September 30, 2022, increased by 40% in each tariff group in a given heating system,” it indicates Office.

In 2024, we would like to freeze energy prices for households, sensitive customers, e.g. schools or hospitals, and micro, small and medium-sized enterprises at the level of PLN 693/MWh. This is a very important and expected decision. This is why I hope that our proposal will be considered by the new parliament as soon as possible – said Minister of Development and Technology Waldemar Buda in an interview with PAP.

The last sentence in his statement is crucial. Though the government is still in the hands of PiS, but the parliament is already in the hands of the current opposition. It is the coalition of three formations (Civic Coalition, Third Road and Left) that will decide on the future of the current government’s projects.
