If you are Belgian, you certainly do not know the town of Balagny-sur-Thérain. However, in France, it has become famous and not necessarily for good reasons. After this Sunday’s municipal elections, the nine new elected officials were extremely satisfied, all proudly displaying … a collegial finger of honor! But the photo, shared on Facebook, did not go wrong with the 1,700 inhabitants of this small village in the Oise. They expressed their indignation on social networks.
This is particularly the case for this Internet user: “To give people outside the village, the level of debate that animated these municipal elections, and the mentality of the newly elected team in Balagny-sur-Thérain. After stormy elections with a level of nonsense rarely achieved, which divided the village like never before, here is the first official publication of the newly elected team! Well done, we have five!
After this selfie of discord, part of the population rose up and sent a petition to the town hall. In this open letter, the residents express their dissatisfaction. “This obscene gesture is an insult to the Republic, to democracy and to the population. This act degrades the image of our dear village.” They also demand the resignation of these nine elected officials and say they are ready to “block access to the town hall” according to Parisian.
Following this ‘popular uprising’, a letter was sent to residents to calm the game. The elections took place in a harmful atmosphere against a backdrop of defamation according to the elected officials. This photo was only a way to “decompress” according to the authors … Not convinced by this explanation, the population still wants to block the city council whose installation is scheduled for Sunday morning. This gathering would not be authorized by the prefecture.
