The Buenosairean Health Minister, Daniel Gollan, highlighted that the isolation stage that restricted the circulation of people in the Metropolitan Area prevented the health system from “collapsing” and achieving that the growth curve of coronavirus infections was flattened.
“The objective was to flatten the growth curve of cases and that the health system did not fall apart, so that it does not collapse and we are left without beds,” Gollan explained at a press conference in the Buenos Aires government in La Plata.
The minister noted that Governor Axel Kiciloff instructed him to intensify the traces and, as the number of cases for these actions increased, to continue increasing the number of beds.
“We went from 6 to 32 the diagnostic centers of the Covid-19, with personnel and equipment; We have more than 230,000 PCR tests and a daily average of 5,500 is carried out, which we will continue to expand until we reach 7 or 8,000 per day in the next 20 days, “he said.
The head of the health portfolio said that “those who work in health”, who are essential personnel, had to be cared for, and in this sense “the capacity of supplies was increased.”
“We have 22 million surgical chinstraps; more than 5 million N95 chinstraps, 23 million gloves and more than a million glasses ”, he pointed out.
And he specified that there is a stock of protective equipment “until the month of November.”
Gollan noted that “1,132 respirators were delivered, therapy beds were increased from 883 to 2201 in public hospitals, 88 works in hospitals were completed and 3608 workers were incorporated into the provincial health system”.
He also noted that the level of occupancy of intensive care beds was improved.
In this regard, he explained that the management system continues to be improved so that “no hospital is 100% occupied, so that we always have one or two beds available in any therapy.”
“The percentage of people who get sick and need an intensive care bed is falling. In April it was 12 percent and now it is 2 to 3 percent, despite a greater number of cases, that allows us to recalculate them along with the time we have to avoid the collapse of the system, “she said.
He explained that “we have 30,980 beds, of which 14 thousand are occupied, an average level of 45 percent”, while “we had 225 stopped works and today we finished 88”.
Finally, the minister invited to donate plasma to the recovered patients, detailing that more than 395 people received them and it was possible to “do a study comparing what happened with the person who received it with the one who did not.”
“43 percent of the people who did not receive plasma died and 11 percent of those who received it are doing well, so we donate plasma,” he emphasized.
