The Pardubice Region fined České dráhy and Leo Express for delays or parked vehicles

The Pardubice Region imposed sanctions on railway carriers on regional lines for unrepaired and delayed trains, non-complied connections and parking of vehicles. For the period from last December 15 to the end of March this year, Leo Express estimated them at 215,200 crowns, and Czech Railways at 1,046,140 crowns. This was stated by the spokesman of the governor’s office, Dominik Barták, when asked by ČTK.

In mid-December, Leo Express passenger trains began to run on lines 024 Ústí nad Orlicí – Mlýnický Dvůr and 025 Dolní Lipka – Hanušovice, which succeeded in the tender. Initially, the private carrier had problems with adhering to the timetable, the lack was also the lack of wi-fi connection, non-functioning Iredo cards, in some trains they were not guides. The governor even threatened to terminate the treaty, but the situation improved in mid-January.

Czech Railways has an average annual traffic output of 4.547 million kilometers in the region, and Leo Express about 740,000 kilometers. National carriers run on ten lines plus others that extend into neighboring regions. The Pardubice Region has concluded contracts with both companies for ten years, the scope of transport may gradually change slightly. For the first year of operation, the region undertook to pay 95 million crowns to a private carrier, and 555 million crowns to Czech Railways.

“Sanctions for Czech Railways are higher. This corresponds to the share of the transport they provide,“Ladislav Umbraun, head of the transport department of the regional office, told ČTK. According to him, complaints about delays or outages of Leo Express connections no longer appear.
