the opening hours of the polling stations and all the practical information for voting in Normandy

The first round of legislative elections takes place this Sunday, June 12. Polling stations open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. What are the sanitary measures? Here is some practical information to know before going to vote:

Polling stations open at 8 hours this Sunday, June 12 and close at 6 p.m. throughout Normandy, even in Caen where the opening was extended to 8 p.m. for the presidential election.

A little advice to avoid the queues in front of the voting booth: slots 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. (just before lunch) and 5 p.m. – 6 p.m. (just before the polling station closes) record the largest crowds.

In Normandy, 2,414,400 voters were registered on the electoral lists in April 2022. They are therefore called to the polls on June 12 to elect their deputy. In the region, 280 candidates are running for the 28 seats in the National Assembly. If you have not received the profession of times from the candidates in your constituency, the documents are available on the website of the Ministry of the Interior.

Normally, you should have received your new voter card in your mailbox at the end of March / beginning of April. Your polling station and address are listed. If you have misplaced this document, you can consult your electoral situation online with just a few clicks (number of voters, polling station, address) on the website service-public.fr. You will even be able to download your certificate of registration on the electoral lists.

If you have lost your voter’s card (or that it got lost on the way), don’t panic! She is not not at all mandatory to be able to vote. However, you will need to prove your identity.. You will need to present one of the following documents:

  • National identity card (valid or expired for less than 5 years)
  • Passport (valid or expired for less than 5 years)
  • Parliamentary identity card (valid) with photograph, issued by the president of a parliamentary assembly
  • Local elected official’s identity card (valid) with photograph, issued by the State representative
  • Vital card with photograph
  • Combatant’s card (valid) with photograph, issued by the National Office for Veterans and War Victims
  • Disability card (valid) with photograph or mobility inclusion card (valid) with photograph
  • Civil servant identity card (valid) with photograph
  • Identity card with photograph or circulation card (valid) with photograph, issued by the military authorities
  • Driving license (valid)
  • Receipt valid as proof of identity (currently valid), issued in exchange for identity documents in the event of judicial review
  • Hunting license (valid) with photograph, issued by the National Office for Hunting and Wildlife (ONCFS). The hunting license issued by the National Biodiversity Office is not valid.

If you’re not too badly off, you can go to the polling station to slip your ballot into the ballot box. But you are strongly recommended to wear the mask.

Non. But it remains however “highly” recommended for :

  • the elderly, immunocompromised, chronically ill and frail, as well as for their caregivers
  • symptomatic people
  • people case contacts at risk
  • people who have tested positive for Covid-19, up to 7 days after their release from isolation.

Please note that you may be asked to briefly remove your mask to verify your identity.

After the municipal, departmental, regional and presidential elections, France is organizing with these legislative elections its fifth ballot of the Covid-19 era. However, voters or members of the organization do not have to present proof of vaccination, a certificate of recovery or completion of a virological test to enter the polling station. Likewise, the gauge is not limited and wearing a mask is not compulsory (see above).

Nevertheless, several health measures are in place :

  • of the surgical masks are available voters and members of the organization (assessors for example)
  • and priority access from outside for fragile people
  • at least two handwashing points inside the polling station
  • ventilation of the polling station for ten minutes every hour
  • regular cleaning of equipment made available to voters (pens, voting booths, ballot boxes)

This Sunday, June 12 in the morning, it is of course too late to make a power of attorney. On the other hand, you can make one for the second round scheduled for Sunday, June 19 by going to on the website maprocuration.gouv.fr.

If one of your relatives has given you power of attorney to vote for him, you just need to go to his polling station and state his name. You will not be asked for any particular document (apart from a document proving your identity as indicated above).

If you have made a proxy but you can still vote this Sunday, it is possible. Provided you go to your polling station before the person to whom you have given power of attorney. The best thing is to prevent it to avoid unnecessary travel.
