The oldest woman in the country is from Blížkovice. Maria Holíková is one hundred and nine years old

Marie Holíková was born on July 15, 1911 in Blížkovice to parents Maria and František Zuhl, as the eldest of three siblings. Her father was the first in the village to receive a call-up order for World War I.

School years and war

“She spent her preschool years with her mother, younger sister and grandparents. She attended a municipal school in Blížkovice, a burgher in Moravské Budějovice. After finishing school, she worked with her parents in agriculture, “said the mayor of Blížkovice.

In 1937, the jubilee married Jan Holík, whose parents handed them over the farm. The following year, their first son was born, the husband was called to protect the republic, and Hitler was invaded. Nor for II. World War II it was not easy. After the assassination of Heydrich in 1942, the husband’s brother was arrested and shot along with other citizens of Blížkovice.

After the war, the Holíks continued their private farming, then moved to an agricultural cooperative, where Mrs. Holíková worked in animal production. While still retired, she helped out if needed. After that, she devoted herself mainly to her granddaughters, working in the garden and raising domestic animals. Her husband died in 1983.
