Measurements showed sad differences
The staff of the Office focused on the quality of the Internet connection already during the summer months. Even then, it turned out that the situation in the Czech Republic is deplorable. Real speeds are much lower than those advertised.

During the control measurement, 16 percent of the connections showed a large deviation from the declared speed. In 36 percent of cases, it turned out that even customer connections were not able to reach the stated maximum speed. The reason is a reduction in bandwidth or a large distance from the control panel.

People will be able to make easier decisions
Therefore, the CTU considers it necessary to establish binding definitions of service quality parameters and deviations from the actual service performance, so that providers can no longer entice end users to unrealistic connection quality.

“The operator will no longer be able to say that it offers 100 Mbit / s when the service runs at a 100-megabit speed for just one minute a day. That will no longer work, “said Hana Továrková, chairwoman of the CTU, for ČTK. The declared speed will have to be met by 90 percent of the day.

According to the CTU, end users should have more relevant and clear information available for their decision on the choice of connection provider.

In the Czech Republic, it offers access to the Internet via fixed networks of 2,055 operators and through mobile networks of 205 providers. Another 144 companies offer connections in both of these ways.
