The Nuncio of Pope Francis visits Cádiz Diocesan Caritas

Cáritas, September 6, 2022.- Monseñor Bernardito Auzaapostolic nuncio in Spain, made an unofficial visit yesterday Monday in which he was able to see first-hand the pastoral and charitable work of our diocese, as well as part of the religious artistic heritage.

Accompanied at all times by the diocesan bishop, the nuncio of His Holiness in Spain first visited the Cathedral of Cádiz and then the headquarters of the Bishopric of Cádiz and Ceuta, where he visited the chapel of Nuestra Señora del Carmen and the various departments that comprise it.

Subsequently, the nuncio of His Holiness and the diocesan bishop held a meeting with Jose Maria Espinar, Secretary General of Cádiz Diocesan Caritas. Espinar exposed the trajectory of Cáritas in recent years, emphasizing the progress made, both in the organization, and in social action in favor of the most needy individuals and groups in the Diocese. After this meeting, the nuncio greeted the Cáritas technical team and spoke briefly with them.

Subsequently, the apostolic nuncio, Monsignor Zornoza and José María Espinar went to the headquarters, located in the Free Zone of Cádiz, of Inserta Cádiz SL, an insertion company promoted by Cáritas Diocesana de Cádiz that aims to support people at risk or in a situation of social exclusion through the collection of used clothing. There he had the opportunity to meet the project participants and the technical team that are part of it. Monsignor Auza showed great interest in knowing the reality of the people who work in this activity. After this visit, he moved to the clothing store Fashion Re-located in the El Pópulo neighborhood, where the treated clothing is sold to the general public or donated to people in situations of social difficulty.

With the visit to the warehouse and the store, the nuncio confirmed how this project fits into the commitment to the circular economy and care for the environment that Cáritas has made. For Cádiz Diocesan Caritas it was a source of joy to have received the visit of the apostolic nuncio of Pope Francisco and receive his blessing for the entire family of Cáritas in the Diocese of Cádiz.

After a brief break for lunch at the San Bartolomé Seminary, Bishop Auza continued learning about the work that is carried out in our diocese with the most needy people, ending his visit in the parish of San José Artesano de San Fernando, where he presided over the Eucharist.
