The NSS has halved the number of students tested by MFD Laboratory Covid-19

The National Health Service (NSS) has halved the number of students tested by MFD Laboratory Covid-19.

The MFD Laboratory is one of four laboratories that carry out mass testing of students, but there have been many complaints about it. The MFD laboratory is unable to cope with its contractual obligations and the test responses are disproportionately long or non-existent, leading the NSA to reduce the number of students to be tested in the laboratory from 76,000 to 38,000.

The representative of the NSS Evija Štālberga explained to the Latvian Television program that the reduced number of students for the MFD laboratory will be provided by other laboratories. This will happen in the next round of testing, as the MFD Laboratory has already issued test kits to schools.

At the same time, the NSS is not preparing to terminate the contract with the MFD Laboratory altogether, as other laboratories also lack capacity.

The MFD Health Group was reportedly unable to provide individual schools with the necessary Covid-19 saliva tests to test students before the new school year.

In order for students to have the opportunity to study safely in person, from August 23, the most extensive testing of Covid-19 performed in Latvia so far was started in primary, secondary and vocational education institutions, the Ministry of Agriculture informed LETA.

Children and staff who have not been vaccinated or have been infected with Covid-19 are being tested.
