It is a wake-up call with feet in the water to which the inhabitants of Ornans were entitled, Friday, January 29. Like d‘other departments in eastern and northern France, the Doubs had been placed in orange vigilance by Météo-France the day before, and this because of the risk of flooding. At noon, the level of the Loue, the river which invaded the streets of the town, reached more than 1.15 meters high. An impressive flood that was not unlike the one that occurred in 2018. “We are fatalistic, but there is not much we can do” breathes Isabelle Guillame, the mayor of the town.
For residents, rain boots are a must. The merchants, sorry, discovered their premises flooded. In Auchy-lès-Hesdin (Pas-de-Calais), mudslides invaded the cellar, then all floors of Claudine Thomas’ house. “We tried to caulk the doors, but there was nothing to be done,” she laments.
