New Yorkers have been talking about it for months, even years … But this time it’s done: the mayor of New York, Bill de Blasio, has kicked off the project to build a line streetcar in New York. Things will finally move forward in a concrete way!
However, it will take a little more patience. The construction of the tracks will begin in 2024 and the new tram, called BQX, will come into service in 2029. The line will connect Brooklyn to Queens, making it possible to cover an area currently very poorly served by the subway and buses. The town hall estimates that the BQX will transport 50,000 users per day.
26 stops from Astoria to Red Hook
However, the project has been revised and shortened for cost reasons. Thus, the line consisting of 26 stops will be 17.7 km long, instead of the 25.7 originally planned, and the BQX will not go to Sunset Park.
The trams will run with an interval of 5 minutes during rush hour and 10 minutes the rest of the day, 20 minutes between 11 p.m. and 1 a.m. Total amount of the bill: around $ 2.7 billion!
