The device combines the design of a conventional battery and an ultracapacitor, withstanding charge cycles tens of times longer than its lithium-ion counterparts.

The Swiss startup Morand has developed the eTechnology technology that allows you to recharge your batteries in minutes. The publication writes about it New Atlas.

eTechnology devices are a blend of traditional batteries and ultracapacitors. The developers say that in independent testing by Geo Technology, a 7.2 kWh prototype was able to charge up to 80% in just 1.12 minutes, up to 98% in 2 minutes. and up to 100% – in 2.5 minutes. with current up to 900 A/360 kV. In addition, it has withstood more than 50,000 charge-discharge cycles, dozens of times better than traditional lithium-ion batteries.

The experimental device is much weaker than the batteries of modern electric vehicles, because some models have an output of more than 100 kWh. However, Morand isn’t particularly concerned, as the company relies on drones, bicycles and other small means of transport that need quick and frequent recharging. At the same time, eTechnology is quite suitable for small electric cars like the Citroën Ami with a 5.5 kWh battery.

The engineers have calculated that with a small 3.2 kW device, a bicycle with a 6 Ah battery can be charged in six minutes. This is significantly faster than current counterparts which take hours to load. Technology could make e-bikes more popular and more convenient for the daily commute than electric vehicles.

Morand, in collaboration with a partner manufacturer, is preparing to roll out eTechnology in small-scale production to compete with lithium-ion batteries. The team is also looking for investors to provide cash to ramp up production in the future.

Prior to this, in the United States, the company Adden Energy introduces the innovative solid state batterywhich offers fast charging and long life. The developers believe that their technology will enable the creation of cheaper and safer electric cars.
