The manipulation of connected objects by thought is not yet ready but Elon Musk has more than one trick up his sleeve. In response to an Internet user, he confirmed that the Neuralink neurocerebral chip will be able to play music directly in our brain.
Elon Musk continues to unveil the extravagant ideas that populate his mind. And it doesn’t need more than a simple tweet to do it. On July 18, on his official Twitter account, the entrepreneur encouraged any engineer, developer or salesperson who has worked in the telephony and connected objects sector to apply for a position at his company Neuralink. Founded in 2016, it aims to create brain implants to repair or increase the brain capacities of an individual. Its ultimate goal is to allow human beings to act on machines and artificial intelligences by their simple thought. Seizing the opportunity launched by Elon Musk himself, Austin Howard, a young computer scientist, took the opportunity to ask him a question: “If we had to implant a Neuralink chip, will we be able to make it directly play music in our brain?” Tesla’s boss simply replied (below), unadorned, that yes.

In July 2019, Elon Musk had extended more precisely on the capabilities of the future Neuralink chip. The idea would be to connect it, probably via Bluetooth, to a computer or a smartphone. If we are to believe Musk’s answer to the question cited, the Neuralink chip would therefore, a priori, be capable of streamer music directly into the brain from being played on an external electronic device. An extravagant but at least concrete application, which until now has been rare to come across about Neuralink. Indeed, even if Elon Musk aims further, Neuralink today only has medical properties. As its founder has repeatedly stated, Neuralink’s top priority – right now – is to provide neurological solutions for patients with severe brain damage, whether due to an accident or neurodegenerative disease. Also on Twitter, Elon Musk has made an appointment with his fans on August 28 for a new briefing on the progress of research conducted by Neuralink.
